Shay Mitchell was born on April 10, 1987 and grew up in Ontario, Canada to parents Mark Mitchell and Precious Garcia. Her mother was born in the Philippines whereas her father had Irish and Scottish ancestry. Mitchell is also the cousin of Lea Salonga, a famed musician and musical theater actor. When she was a kid, Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary before transferring to the West Vancouver Secondary School. When she was in her teen years Mitchell worked with various modeling agencies all over the world. She travelled to Barcelona, Bangkok, Hong Kong before returning home to Toronto where she began studying acting.
